The University of Canberra is letting it be known it’s celebrity hard hat day for their new medical facility:
Federal Minister for Health Tanya Plibersek and ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Health Katy Gallagher turn the first sod at the Super Clinic site this morning at 10am. They will be joined by University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor Stephen Parker and Ochre Health CEO John Burns.
In partnership with Ochre Health, the clinic will host general practitioners, a pharmacy, pathology labs, radiology, psychology services and the University of Canberra’s existing student-led allied health clinics.
The $15 million, four-storey, 4800 square metre building is jointly funded by the Department of Health and Ageing, Health Workforce Australia and the University.In addition to its potential for new student placement opportunities and extra healthcare services, the clinic will also open up new avenues for research.
Its research capacity will be enhanced by the involvement of National ICT Australia (NICTA), while the University’s long association with headspace ACT will continue with the youth mental health service operating from the new building.
Professor Parker said the super clinic would be part of an emerging health precinct on the campus, which will also include the new University of Canberra Public Hospital.
