Have to agree…went to a game last year and had seats near the front. It’s great for action in front of your nose, but for over half the pitch there’s no way you can follow the ball or judge distances….it sort of disappears into a single dimension. If they just had more elevation in the stands it would be a better spectacle.
Cricket wasn’t so bad.

having lived in Adelaide for the first 25 years of my life and the last 15 years in Canberra, I can say that each city has their own charms.

Adelaide has great beaches and wineries, but crappy roads (in the metro area).

Canberra is easy to get around and is close to Sydney, the snow and the beach, but suffers from crappy government services – poor infrastructure development and too much of a trend towards urban infill.

I was there a few weeks ago and stayed on Miller Street. If this is what is known as vibrant in Adelaide, i.e. police sirens every 10 minutes, then yes, they are the winners. The person I met with was originally from Canberra, and funnily enough he was a quite happy to bag Adelaide and its residents!

I had a week there and stayed at Glenelg. It was awesome, there was all sorts of stuff going on and if you looked there were some great restaurants around.

I had the best vegetarian brekky in a back street of one of the suburbs (cant remember which) and the best British-Indian I have have ever had.

Maybe but they’re not as harsh on sentencing as some might think eg. Jason Downie in a jealous rage stabbed to death 16-year-old Chantelle Rowe and her parents Andrew and Rose at least 112 times and while he got life he will be eligible for parole in 35 years at which time he’ll be 55 years of age.His file should have read ‘never to be released’.

I don’t think that they are comparing to other cities. I thought they were surveying to find out which city had the happiest citizens in a range of categories.

In my experience, for public transport, Adelaide is the best capital city, followed closely by Brisbane. Canberra beats Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart quite easily (with the exception of the ridiculous Sunday night curfew). I will admit I’ve never been to Darwin or Perth.

I feel unqualified to pass judgement on any category although I would happily take 12 months of Canberra winter than one month of an Adelaide sumeer.

In Adelaide, does getting a murder conviction earn you more than a month’s weekend detention? Win again then.

Yeah, nah, they used to. In the process of turning it into a much more pleasant 21st century arena suitable for footy they’re going to ruin all the things that made it a great cricket ground.

It’ll still be nice, but not like it was in the good old days.

Indeed, Manuka is probably its equal, especially with the proper old skool scoreboard.

They have much nicer wine and better driving roads.

Not to be a dick, but realistically a survey like this needs to include something along the lines of ‘plentiful employment’. You can have the most cultured, affordable, well run city in the world, but it’s hard to enjoy it except as a tourist if you can’t actually survive there. Adelaide has pretty much the worst job market of any major city in the country. I’m sure some people do well there and love it, but there’s a reason why people aren’t jetting in by the hundreds of thousands.

Haha you beat me to it. Recently been reading about Australian murderers. Adelaide is a pretty messed up place in that regard.

Have they fixed the water up yet ? Can remember visiting rellies their and you used the tank water for drinking. The town supply that came out of the kitchen tap was brown. But that was a few years ago.

I agree with everything especially the being poor at having a ‘vibrant cultural entertainment scene’. Spot on. These results were found by interviewing Canberrans so 35% of interviewed Canberrans have never looked at our Entertainment section.

Yeah it is in some ways….

Nice beaches (I know thats not Canberra fault but hey!), cheaper housing, weather isnt so extreme in Winter (but is in Summer), not so many public servants…… Better food (fresh food in particular).
