More changes due to light rail construction are coming – this time for Canberrans who use Greyhound buses.
Greyhound Australia spokesperson Michael Leard told Region travellers that the familiar red buses will now depart from the Jolimont Centre on Northbourne Avenue.
“We are very excited to be back in the Jolimont centre after a number of years stopping out in the open street at West Row,” he said.
“The timing was right to make this move, and Jolimont was fit for purpose and welcomed us with open arms.”
The coach operator has routes connecting various locations across mainland Australia, including Melbourne, Sydney and Albury.
Mr Leard said the move was driven by planned construction work for the next stage of Canberra’s light rail network.
“We relocated our Greyhound Australia stop in Canberra to the Jolimont Centre on Friday, 11 January,” he said.
“This was due to light rail construction closing our previous stop location on West Row.”
Construction on the next stage of the light rail network, known as Light Rail Stage 2A, is scheduled to start on 5 February.
The western side of London Circuit will be closed to regular traffic. However, some movement from West Row through London Circuit to Knowles Place onto Edinburgh Avenue will be allowed.
Infrastructure Canberra has previously announced that, as work is completed across the alignment, sections of London Circuit will be re-opened to support access to the area.
Once completed, the light rail network will include three new stops at Edinburgh Avenue, City South and Commonwealth Park. Also, the light rail vehicles will run wire-free.
All existing Greyhound Australia routes remain unchanged, including the daily services operating between Sydney and Melbourne.
The coach company will also run trips to the snow from 6 June, with stops including Cooma, Berridale, Jindabyne, SkiTube and Thredbo.
A full list of Greyhound Australia’s routes can be found on its website, while further information on Light Rail Stage 2A can be found on the ACT Government’s website.
