Alleged arsonist to face court after three people taken to hospital

An alleged arsonist will face court today after two police officers and one woman were taken to Canberra Hospital following a house fire in Chisholm yesterday afternoon.

A 48-year-old Chisholm man has been charged with arson, possessing an offensive weapon and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police were called to a residence on Proctor Street, Chisholm after being alerted to a disturbance and found the alleged offender alone inside the house armed with a machete. When police approached the man to speak to him, they heard an explosion which subsequently set the garage on fire.

The alleged offender was later found at Chisholm Cricket Oval where he was arrested by officers.

The garage was completely destroyed as ACT Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire, and no other persons were found in the house.
