Beers-cheers

We loved all the entries that you submitted to us naming your favourite brewery and, moreover, why it was your favourite.

But, we could only pick five winners. The winners are: Tegan, Ashleigh, Tim, Paul and Sibella. Congratulations on your hampers, tickets and brewery beers. RiotACT will be in contact with you shortly.

If you’re not already sipping on a beer as part of the celebration, pass the time by reading the entries and, hopefully, finding some new favourite breweries.

Our favourite local brewery is Bentspoke – top beers and cider, top blokes behind the bar and a great place to sit and watch the world go by on a Friday afternoon!
Tegan (winner!)

My favourite local brewery would be the Wig & Pen – love the staff and the feel of the place, and they always have an interesting cider or ginger beer on tap for me to drink!
Ashleigh (winner!)

My fave brewer is definitely the Bentspoke at the moment – fave brew is the Sprocket…
Stephen

Favourite local brewery is Bentspoke!
Mick

My favourite local brewery is Wig and Pen. Their all year beers are great (velvet cream stout, venom IPA, etc), but when they have darkfest over winter I am in heaven. Quality.
Tim (winner!)

Where to start…
Bentspoke is an obvious choice due to the great venue in Braddon and the endless amount of glorious beers of every different style! Who hasn’t sat there for several hours on a tasting mission only to decide they are all brilliant….well maybe the cider isn’t the best I’ve had but we are talking beer! I could drink those beers every day and it wouldn’t ever get old. The news about the new venue/cannery they will open has made my week!

Zierholz – another classic Canberra based brewery and the expansion to UC was a masterstroke. Ill often pop over to A Bite to Eat in Chifley for a pint of Zierholz but it has been a while so im hoping they still have the tap. Food there is also top notch.

Wig and Pen – an absolute institution. So many beers drunk in the old location. The Wig was always on the schedule when I was young enough to hit Civic often.

PACT is the new kid and have impressed me. I shouldn’t be surprised given the background of the guys. This brewery will continue to gain momentum and ideally Canberra will really continue to get behind a local product.

The winner for me is…

PACT – a homebrewer to commercial brewery success story and all local. You simply cannot argue that. Hoping you agree and sort me with a prize pack but if not its all good. Ill be at BDO on Saturday anyway and am a regular visitor to Pot Belly, Durham, Transit etc so ill get my fill of the local brews regardless.
Paul (winner!)

Define local brewery, as there is a great little brewery in Tumut called Tumut River Brewing Co and they are only 50kms away as the crow flies. Their ginger beer, Ginja Ninja is amazing (its like liquidized ginger nut biscuit, only boozy) and their dunkel is a cracker too.
Mark

Favourite local has to be the original wig and pen… Only metres between the brewery and the bar!
Robert

Our favourite local brewery has to be Bentspoke!!!
Jen

Probably my favorite would be Bent Spoke!!! Their ginger beer is to die for, and I really enjoy some of their lighter beers. They are really creative with their food options, too!
Sibella (winner!)

Zierholz!
Anna

I was trying to think of a witty comment to post on your beer competition post, but I’ve given up and just entering via email with my personal favourite local beer – PACT.
Sean

Bentspoke for mine for sure. Growler takeaway options are great for weekends watching rugby.
Andy

Go ‘Zierholz’!
Neil

Bentspoke for me: great beers, fitout and location.
Andrew
