“Marco?” “Polo!”
“How long can you hold your breath for?”
I love that the games kids are playing at the pool haven’t changed.
It reached 30 degrees on the weekend and so I dusted off the goggles and cap and happily took the dive into the two local pools that received the most recommendations after our callout last week: Dickson and Manuka.
Dickson offers a 50m pool with three lanes roped off for people doing laps with varying degrees of efficiency (which patrons are requested to be “realistic about”). There are also two shallow pools, a kids’ play park and beach volleyball courts.

Surrounding everything is a spacious lawn on which to relax and enjoy being outdoors. There are plenty of rooms to change in and showers and toilets available.
The inner-south hosts Manuka pool, the first to be built in Canberra and it is a wonderful time warp to visit. Sitting on the benches that enclose the 30m pool you could almost hope to see ladies in cotton printed bathing suits with little over-skirts or men in wool knit trunks.

Around the side there is a large area of lawn with a kids’ play pool in the centre, with room to take a rest in the shade.
I enjoyed the feel of Manuka pool immensely, but thought Dickson pool the most fun, very spacious and open, so am giving it the Best of Canberra tick.
