Canberra a [second] best city to raise kids

astrojax 16 January 2013 14

The Age has an article today that cites a study listing Launceston as australia’s most ‘family-friendly’ city, with our own glorious national capital mooching in just behind.

Let’s try, in this centenary year, to boost our ranking ahead of that tasmanian interloper, eh?  how would we do this..?

That would be me.

Astrojax uses no caps at all.

that’d be ‘astrojax’, jb 🙂

a simple way to usurp lawn-cess-t’n from the top of the list would be to have relevant federal ministers (who apparently live in canberra, to the great unwashed out there) make some decisions (that might be a first) that turn the town into a toxic swamp. oh wait, the deforestation of tasmania and its pulp mills are doing that…

How do you guys pronounce “Launceston”?

For Launceston locals it’s: Lon-ceston.

Interesting, for the locals in the original Launceston, and indeed all the Cornish, it’s pronounced; Lan-son.”

+1

Lawn-ceston is like saying Can-bare-aah, instead of Can-bra.

With a patronising sneer.

Legalise drugs.
Better bicycle access.
Destroy welfare abuse.
Make the lakes day and night hot spots.

Winning all around.

Well, given that out school class sizes are bigger than those of Launceston, perhaps people need to have fewer children for those children to have more space in class…so that the ideas can open like those pretty things that plants have.

Launceston is well known for its intellectual attainment, after all.

I was going to do all that that astrojax style with no caps, but found it just too difficult. That’s what comes of being squashed as a child like those little silver fish that come in a can.

Start a “Like” Canberra campaign. It can’t fail!

Umm astrojax.

Is there any reason you diligently supplied leading capital letter for Launceston, yet omitted it from our glorious national capital home city hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Murdertown comes in 5th … augurs badly for all those 6th and below.

More childcare places would be a great start!

FTA, some of the reasons Canberra didn’t beat Launceston were our higher crime rate and higher cost of purchasing a home.

Doubt there’s much we can do about either of those short of vigilantism and protesting that the government release more land, neither of which I would condone.
