The Ultimate Women’s Weekend is back in Canberra again on 21 and 22 July at EPIC Canberra. It’s the lifestyle and wellbeing expo that’s enabling women to take time out for themselves. It’s furthermore providing opportunities for women to be inspired, believe in and empower themselves while educating people about the dangers of domestic violence.

The very first Ultimate Women’s Weekend show was held in Ballarat, Victoria in August 2016. Since then, they have taken their expos to Toowoomba, Albury-Wodonga, Wagga, Shepparton, Melbourne and, of course, Canberra. The Canberra expo this year will feature many small to medium size businesses who will come together to offer women something to try, do or experience in a comfortable, safe and fun environment full of sisterhood energy. Guest speakers will include Jemimah Ashleigh (Business Owner & Australia’s No.1 Podcaster), Desiree Taylor, (Health & Wellness Warrior) and Dianna Jacobsen (Business Mentor). Visitors will have the chance to attend free workshops and seminars and experience free pampering in the relaxation zone, which is being provided this year by Jindii Eco Spa. There will also be a wide range of industries offering interactive experiences such as skincare, mind, body, spirit, health, makeup, fitness, fashion, home, children, crafts and more.

The business was recently acquired by Bec Hay, who started as an exhibitor with the show back in Ballarat in 2016. She continued working for the show as a volunteer until a few months ago, the outgoing director – Penny O’Sullivan gave Bec the opportunity to take over the show. Bec says “I jumped at the opportunity because I love what this show is, what it offers, and what it exists for. We are all about supporting small businesses, as well as the local small domestic violence shelters, which are so desperately needed, and so desperately underfunded”! Bec feels lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing team of people in the organisation and loves the exhibitor family they’re building!

Their advocacy for ending domestic violence came from the shocking statistic that in Australia one in three women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15 and one in four experience emotional abuse. It dawned on them that a third of women that attend their Expos would have experienced abuse. The Expos are designed to not only pamper women but to give women the strength to make positive changes to their lives. They give women strength to leave dangerous situations and support shelters who are so valuable and yet very low on resources.

Ultimate Women’s Weekend is all about giving back. This year in Canberra they have partnered with the Tara Costigan Foundation, The Costigan family set up the Tara Costigan Foundation in her memory to lobby governments, raise awareness and provide post-crisis domestic violence support to women through its Tara’s Angels program. The program assigns experienced social workers to survivors of domestic violence – free of charge. The Ultimate Women’s Weekend Team have this year pledged to donate 10% of all ticket sales to the Tara Costigan Foundation.

Ultimate Women’s Weekend invites you to take time out for yourself because you deserve it. You will not only have fun but really help make an impact towards the contribution of ending domestic violence and also supporting the small and medium-sized businesses that are exhibiting at the expo. Invite your girlfriends, sisters, mother and groups!
