The ABC has the sad news that the Comcare is now liable for the emotional fallout of office romances after firebomber Colin Dunstan had a win in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

Dunstan has fought a long battle for compensation, claiming he was harassed by a colleague with whom he had had an affair .

This week the Administrative Appeal Tribunal found Dunstan’s employment with the Commonwealth had contributed to his depression.

It found he was entitled to compensation and ordered Comcare to calculate the amount.

Expect the departmental memos to start firing up around now…

”In view of the greater contact the ATO unwittingly afforded to Ms X to have with Mr Dunstan and in view of our finding that he was managing the relationship and not suffering ill effects before that time, we have concluded that Mr Dunstan’s depression was contributed to in a material degree by his employment with the ATO,” they wrote.

Sooooo – because his ex worked at his work, and he found it hard to see her, his work, is up for compo, as he was unhappy after the break-up.

Is that what they are saying??

I’ve got an idea – sack all the consultants and contractors and make the pubes do some actual work instead of forever spending their time finding new ways to scam compo.

Yeah, well Dunstan may have found it hard to do ‘actual work’ while he was in prison.

when you read the decision he actually sounds quite emotionally unintelligent, which is how he managed to get himself into the position with ‘Ms X’ in the first place.
