A Cooma business that delivers mental health first aid training to up-skill women in rural and regional areas is the latest recipient of a grant from the NSW Government’s Investing in Women Grant Program.

Susan Burke Interactive Lessons Design is one of 16 organisations to receive funding across NSW and will receive $25,000 to help fund their program that supports women experiencing mental health issues.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro and Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor met with Susan Burke to announce the funding on August 7.

“This funding from the NSW Government is supporting a remarkable project that empowers women to live their lives, their way,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Women in our community should have every opportunity to thrive, and this program will offer them the chance to access high-quality evidence-based education close to home.

Grant recipient Susan Burke said she was thrilled to have funding for her project that provides women in rural and regional areas with mental health training.

“My goal is to equip participants with skills and strategies to assist those in their communities,” Ms Burke said.

“There are a number of benefits with this training, including knowledge of the mental illness, treatments and first aid actions, and confidence in providing support to others.”

Interactive Lessons Design will facilitate workshops in Bega, Cooma, Wagga, Yass and Orange.

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said projects funded through the program will empower women to take charge of their economic, social and health outcomes.

“The NSW Government is committed to improving the lives of women in NSW, and the Investing in Women projects address many of the challenges still facing women,” Ms Taylor said.

“I am proud of our commitment to advance the role, status and contribution of women and girls in our communities and how this program is supporting this.

“Sporting programs, employment and leadership training, and financial literacy workshops and are just some of the activities that will be available to women under this year’s Investing in Women program.”

The program offers grants of up to $50,000 per project for organisations that demonstrate practical and direct ways to engage and support women.

Further details on successful projects can be found on the Investing in Women program website.
