Former Dickson Dominos owner calls his restaurant "disgusting"

cockroach pizza

It was back in October 2008 when RiotACT featured the above little fellow entombed in a pizza from the Dickson Dominos.

Today the Canberra Times reports on the day in court of “Whono’s Pty Ltd” which owns the franchise and its sole director Michael Duncan.

in an interview with authorities, the operator admitted the store battled a cockroach problem for six months. He also accused staff of failing to follow the store’s cleaning regime and of falsifying completed cleaning records…

Michael Duncan, acknowledged the infestation had been a problem for six months and the store had reached ”a disgusting state”. He told authorities he was hiring new staff and planning a major refurbishment.

He might want to tighten up his management of staff and his internal inspection systems while he’s at it. Just sayin’.

UPDATE: In the interests of fairness I thought this comment is worth including in the body of the story:

What the Canberra Times article failed to mention is that our company, Razielle Pty Ltd, took over Dominos Pizza Dickson in November 2010. The food safety concerns are raised with the former owner. Razielle has never had a food safety breach in eight years of operation.

I take on board the points made that a careful read of the piece reveals there has been a change.

But my point is the world is not black and white, and a “careful read” does not often happen. And in this case a reasonable person should expect that unless it was made quite clear that the story was about a former owner, there would be potential to substantially and indeservedly damage the business of the new owner.

Therefore there is a duty of care and natural justice on the article’s author to make the distinction very obvious – not simply referred to tangentially.

bear grills would be in seventh heaven!

The stoy does say “Whono’s Pty Ltd, which traded as the Dickson branch of the Domino’s chain until November 2010, has pleaded guilty to four breaches of ACT food safety laws.”

I infer from that that Whono’s no longer operates the Dickson Domino’s, which in the context of a court story adequately makes the point the current operator can reasonably expect (in my opinion).

Well to be fair the paper is reporting a court case and not acting as PR for whoever owns the store now. Razielle should consider advertising on Riotact just to get their message across!

Thanks for clarifying Sayuri. I’m glad to hear the place has been cleaned up.

I consumed a vegetarian pizza from Dominios Dickson a couple of weeks ago. To my horror, upon seeing this article, I did start to wonder if there were any bite size pieces of bug protein hidden in my veggie pizza!?
