Canberra’s dining scene has come a long way in the last decade. The city is now home to multiple burgeoning foodie precincts, a thriving wine industry and a gourmet Truffle Festival.

With such a thriving food scene and so many new restaurants to navigate, one homegrown local company has set up shop to help you discover the city’s foodies secrets all in one day.

Eat Canberra Food Tours was born out of a successful Instagram and blog run by journalist and communications professional Amelia Bidgood. A lover of food and travel, Amelia is on a mission to put Canberra on the global foodie map!

“Eat Canberra Food Tours are a unique way to explore Canberra’s food scene,” Amelia said. “Our walking food tours are for locals, interstate and international visitors and are a great way to meet other people and enjoy a day out in the nation’s capital.

“The food tours launched in April 2017 and we’ve taken hundreds of people from around the world on our tours. We offer a range of tours and can also arrange private tours for all occasions including hens parties, Christmas parties, birthday parties, corporate events, team building events and more.”

There are currently five bespoke tours that Amelia has curated to choose from. Our top three picks to discover great food (while getting a taste for the city) are below:

Truffle Hunt and Tasting Tour

Tis the season for truffles, so this year for the first time Eat Canberra is celebrating this strange and delicious ingredient with limited winter tours.

“We’ve created a very special foodie experience to help you discover the fresh black winter truffles grown in the ACT and Southern NSW. Come on an adventure with us where you will visit a truffle farm and go truffle hunting while learning more about truffles from the experts.”

“After you’ve worked up an appetite, we’ll drive you to one of the many amazing wineries in the region where you will enjoy a wine tasting of 10 wines, a shared grazing platter and a two-course meal that highlights truffles at an incredible Canberra region winery.”

Dates: Saturday 20th July and Saturday 3rd August

Experience a truffle hunt.

Taste of Asia Tour

Did you know Canberra has a Chinatown? Eat Canberra will let you in on all the secrets to discover the city’s small but surprising Chinatown. The day will include sampling more than 20 different types of food from various Asian cuisines.

Dates: Sunday 4th August

Discover Chinatown.

Braddon/City Walking Food Tour

Discover Canberra’s original hipster foodie precinct in a four-hour walking tour.

“We eat our way around (restaurant hop) and sample a range of food and drinks at more than five stops. Your guide will take you to hot spots and hidden gems as you eat your way around the streets of Canberra!” shared Amelia.

“We try to make it a really relaxed, enjoyable day out with plenty of background on the food we eat and the places we eat at. The groups will have a maximum of 15 people so there will be plenty of chances to chat and answer questions. We’ll also give you information about other places to eat at in Canberra and lots of other fun facts.”

Dates: Saturday 29th of June and Saturday 6th of July
