DIY Wotz on Guide for the weekend 04-MAY-06

By johnboy - 4 May 2006 17

Know about something good happening this weekend? How about something bad? How about something a bit of the naff side but fun nevertheless?

In any event if you know about an event on this weekend why not write about it in the comments so others can go too?

What’s Your opinion?

Freshest Guiness in Canberra award goes to the Phoenix.

Saturday at the Phoenix, Cold Heart Projects were excellent and REVOLVER were pretty good as well.

The place was packed and the audience very appreciative of original live music.

And the Guinness went down very, very well….

The Full Monty started last night with a huge responce by the audience. It was pleasing after alll the effort to see the show go down so well… and yes I am biased but it really did go over very well

Let’s see…I shall be seeking out at 21st present (anyone know what’s happened to that Miscellaneum jewellry store in the top of the Canberra Centre?), Brumbiesing and working (bah!). All highly exciting really.

In the theatre stakes, as with last week, the logjam continues. There’s at least six productions running this week:

“Arcadia” continues at Theatre 3 (Canberra Rep).
“M Butterfly” continues at the Canberra Theatre Studio (Free Rain).
“Romeo and Juliet” continues at the Canberra Theatre playhouse (Bell Shakespeare).
“Tartuffe” finishes this weekend at the Street Theatre Studio (Centrepiece theatre).
“Antony and Cleopatra” continues at the ANU Arts centre (Moonlight).
And “The Full Monty” kicks off this week on the main stage of the Street theatre (Supa) productions).

Of these, I’ve only seen “Tartuffe” (which is well worth watching) – but I’d assume they’ve all got something worthwhile – at the very least, each of them has at least one actor I know who I’ve enjoyed watching in the past.

from out front sounded good…. I have played sets and thought it was shit.. and had everyone tell me it was awesome…

Thumper 3:35 pm 04 May 06

G’Day AD,

we thought the first set was terrible. Our drummer was late because he was out of town and so we didn’t have time for a sound check.

Sound was better for the rest of the night and yes, we slotted in a few originals in the first set, and the rest of the night as well.

Cheers

speaking of which thumper…. I caught your guys first set the other night… had to leave because my friends wanted to play pool… but it sounded really good from what I saw.. nice and tight, good harmonies going on… pity about the small crowd!! – were their any originals in that set.. there were a couple of songs which I didn’t recognise.. which I assumed were originals..
