Prof Tanya Monro AC, Chief Scientist for Defence has a critical role in achieving the national security and economic success of Defence at the intersection of regional geopolitical and global economic uncertainty. Professor Monro is also a strong advocate for increasing gender equality in the science and defence fields. The lack of gender diversity can limit innovation and creativity rather than encourage diversity of thought, improve problem solving capabilities and increase the likelihood or better outcomes for Australia. Her keynote address will provide insights into her role in both these areas and their importance given recent Defence based announcements.

Dr Mark Skidmore AM will address how the Skykraft team require a range of engineering skills, a passion for innovation and a willingness to draw upon the knowledge and capabilities of a wide range of partners. It is this diversity of skills and the challenge of identifying novel approaches and partnerships that push the boundaries of space technology and deliver new and innovative satellite services.

Lucas Rutherford is General Manager Digital Economy Branch, Technology & Digital Division. Department of Industry, Science and Resources. The Branch leads the Digital Economy Strategy, which sets out how Australia will be a leading digital economy and society by 2030.

Kala Phillip will provide practical insights into how organisations attract and train people with the skills required for future roles. She will discuss the likely success and limits to the free training slots available under the Governments skills initiative in university’s and vocational institutions.
