Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s April school-holiday programs give children a chance to show off their creativity. Guided by a team of professional artists, musicians, dancers, and actors, the one-day Art and Action program is an action-packed visual and performing arts school holiday explosion of creative joy. Everyone will start the day playing theatre sports and other drama games before breaking into smaller classes based on age. During the art class participants will be introduced to gelli print, using acrylic paints to build up layers of colour using materials such as lace and leaves to create amazing artworks that are theirs to keep at the end of the day! Fresh Funk dance tutors will introduce young ones to Street-funk dance, giving participants the opportunity to learn a dance routine and have fun exploring this popular style of dance. After lunch, musicians Katie and Jess Cole will lead high-energy music sessions where everyone gets involved, in fun collaborative music making.

9:20 – 9:30am: Registration TAC reception (parents/carers)
9:30am – 10:45am: Drama (both groups)
10:45am – 11:00am: Recess (both groups)
11am – 12:15pm: Art workshop (9-12yrs) & Street-funk dance (6-8yrs)
12:15 – 12:35pm: Lunch (both groups) **BYO lunch
12:35 – 1:45pm: Music Making (both groups)
1:45 – 3pm: Street-funk dance (9-12yrs) & Art workshop (6-8yrs)
About the tutors
Drama – Daniel Streatfield
Daniel Streatfield is the tutor for Tuggeranong Art Centre’s popular Funky Fairytales drama class. Dan has a great way of helping young actors gain confidence in voice projection and characterisation, script-writing, working in small groups and performing on the stage. Having grown up on the stage, Daniel brings natural talent as well as academic qualifications to his theatre workshops. An experienced tutor in drama, writing and musicals, he brings out the best in his students with his humour and warm teaching style.
Art – Gina Chapman
Gina Chapman joined the TAC team in 2022, assisting Messengers classes and working on events. She is a graduate of the ANU School of Art, winning the BCC Patron Award for her graduating work. She has gone on to study Conservation, Land Management and Horticulture. Gina currently leads the Seniors and Carers art classes as well as masterclass workshops. She is passionate about environmental issues, conservation, and communicating this through visual arts.
Dance – Noah Gorrell
Noah has been dancing since he could walk! He recently won Best Male Dancer at the Australian Dance Crew Championships. With years of experience in dance and other performing arts, Noah is also a kind and inclusive tutor, who will make sure the class is lots of fun even if you’ve never danced before.
Music – Katie Cole
Katie Cole is an accomplished singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, writer and music director who loves sharing her passion for music making with people of all ages and abilities: from beginner to advanced; from hobbyist to professional. She founded and directs the band, The Ukeladies, improvises on violin at many venues around Canberra, is conductor of the Andante Andante ABBA choir. Katie also teaches ukulele at Music for Canberra and is a tutor in the Open School of Music at ANU.
