Canberra baked goods behemoth Three Mills Bakery has issued a product recall on nine items in their frozen bake-at-home range due to undeclared allergens. The recall impacts a limited number of products purchased prior to 22 June.
The undeclared allergens include gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, fish, sulphites, and/or sesame, but not all of these allergens will be present in all of the recalled products. Any consumers with intolerances or allergies to the above allergens may risk a reaction if they eat the affected products.
The affected products and the undeclared allergens are:
- Apple Turnover (4 Pack) – gluten, wheat, dairy and egg
- Beef & Pepperberry Share Pie (1 Pie) – gluten, wheat, dairy and sulphites
- Beef & Seasonal Veg Sausage Roll (4 Pack) – gluten, wheat, dairy and fish
- Chicken, Leek & Riesling Share Pie (1 Pie) – gluten, wheat and dairy
- Kids Beef & Seasonal Veg Sausage Roll (6 Pack) – gluten, wheat, dairy and fish
- Kids Cheesy Veg Roll (6 Pack) – gluten, wheat and dairy
- Lamb & Mustard Sausage Roll (4 Pack) – gluten, wheat, dairy and sesame
- Mushroom & Black Barley Vegetarian Roll (4 Pack) – gluten, wheat and dairy
- Pork Chilli & Confit Garlic Sausage Roll (4 Pack) – gluten, wheat and dairy.
The products are otherwise safe to consume for those without any intolerances or allergies.
After contacting Three Mills Bakery, Region understands that the recall was due to a “minor labelling misprint” after the business altered its packaging to adhere to new government standards of labelling.
The affected products are being relabelled, and Three Mills Bakery assures customers that (allergies notwithstanding) “[t]he product is as delicious as ever and totally safe to enjoy”.
Three Mills Bakery added, “We respect that labelling helps consumers make decisions about what they eat, so naturally, we pulled the products from our shelves to start the job of relabelling them correctly.
“If anyone has a product they’ve purchased from us recently and are worried about allergens, simply refer to the ingredients on the packet or jump on our website for more product details. They’re also more than welcome to return it to our stores to exchange it for a correctly labelled product.”
The recall only impacts products bought online or at a Three Mills Bakery store. Items sold at the Harris Farm location had a separate label that was already compliant.
Three Mills Bakery is owned and operated by Canberra local Jarrod Deaton. Three Mills has six retail locations across Canberra, an online store and delivery service, products are stocked in local and regional IGAs, and the group regularly attends the Capital Region Farmers Market at EPIC. Their most recent location is a cafe and bakery in the new Harris Farm store at Majura Park.
Three Mills Bakery is a huge employer in the hospitality industry in Canberra with around 130 staff from bakers and baristas to admin staff and delivery drivers. They also recently received a government grant to ‘green’ the concrete area outside their Woden store.
Anyone concerned about allergens can find product information on the Three Mills Bakery website or see more information about the recall via Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.
