Inspired by real-life, viral tweets from A’Ziah ‘Zola’ King and a subsequent Rolling Stone article, black comedy crime flick Zola follows stripper Zola King (Taylour Paige) on a wild trip to Florida with fellow performer Stefani (Riley Keough). Things get out of hand when a hustle for strip club profits quickly descends into a violent whirlwind of prostitution and extortion.

Nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize, Zola is a cautionary tale about the hazards of sex work in the digital age, and an exploration of online and offline personas.

‘…a raw and sometimes chilling and often darkly funny adventure’ – Chicago Sun-Times

Part of a spotlight series on Oscar-nominated Australian cinematographer Ari Wegner. Other screenings include Lady Macbeth (William Oldroyd, 2016), and In Fabric (Peter Strickland, 2018).
