It’s on again. This Sunday the lawns of Old Parliament House will play host to some serious Italian style. There will be plenty to see and do, and I guarantee there will be fast red (and other not just red) cars, many of them Ferraris.
I stumbled into Auto Italia last year. After initially planning a more sedate walk along the lake, my friend (who has a thing for fast cars) was attracted to checking out Auto Italia. Not having been before, I was amazed at what a large and engrossing event it is. In fact, Auto Italia is the Southern Hemisphere’s largest celebration of Italian automobiles. Even for someone who, like me, is not usually a car lover, it is just fascinating to see the detail in the design and how styles have changed over time.
This year the feature car will be the iconic Ferrari, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary. For the Ferrari lover there the event provides an opportunity to dream of owning one (or the next one) while checking out over 70 classic and modern Ferrari cars. Models on display will include the first ever Australian public display of the new V12 GTC4Lusso alongside other current range models the 488 Spider, 488 GTB, and California T. Ferrari classics such as 458 Speciale, 430 Scuderia, F40, 360 Challenge Stradale, F355 Challenge, Dino 246, BB 512 Boxer, 365 GTC/4 and the 365 GTB/4 Daytona will also be on display.
In addition, Ferrari will have the honour of being in the featured marque at Auto Italia. “We are delighted to be the featured marque at Auto Italia this year,” said CEO Herbert Appleroth. “It is fantastic to have such a large collection of Ferrari classics and modern vehicles on display to the public for such an important milestone. We are looking forward to celebrating and sharing our marque’s iconic history with the public and encourage our friends and fans to join us in Canberra for this celebration.”
If admiring super cool cars is not cool enough, the event also features food and drink stalls selling classic Italian food. What could be sweeter than strolling amongst luxury vehicles while savouring an Italian gelato, cannoli, or a good cappuccino?
