Firies extingish blazes in Braddon, Kaleen homes

Firefighters have extinguished a fire in a house on Ijong Street, Braddon this morning and in Callabonna Street, Kaleen this afternoon.

ACT Fire & Rescue was alerted to the Braddon incident at 5.30am.

Crews arrived a short time later to find a fire in the roof space of the property.

Two occupants had safely evacuated from the home.

Initial investigations suggest an electrical fault with a heater in a bedroom started the fire.

The initial estimates damage bill is $350,000.

ACT Fire & Rescue was alerted to the incident in Callabonna Street at 1.03pm and responded with three fire pumpers, breathing apparatus support van and a commander.

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames, containing damage to the kitchen and the roof space immediately above it.

Firefighters were ventilating smoke from the building late this afternoon.

Nobody was home at the time of the incident.

The cause is unknown but will be investigated.
