A renovated four-bedroom two-bathroom home on a large 1123 square-metre block is on the market in the affordable suburb of Latham and comes with a salt-water pool, a gazebo and a large two-car garage.

The spacious home at 208 Southern Cross Drive offers the benefits of a large family home with an entertainer’s retreat out the back, while still having the convenience of being close to the Belconnen and Kippax shops, as well as local transport and schools.

To be auctioned on June 23, the large property also has the attraction of potentially offering better value-for-money than suburbs much further out.

For example, the median sale price in Latham is $502,000 whereas the median sale price in the Gungahlin suburb of Amaroo is $621,000.

Listing agent Samuel Thompson of LJ Hooker Belconnen said he believes Latham is one of the best suburbs in Belconnen and it is very tightly held.

“My opinion of Latham is that you just can’t go wrong buying there. It is very affordable,” said Mr Thompson.

He said that the home is set back from the street on a very large block of land and is in a great location.

“At the end of the day what goes up in value is land.”

The home has been recently renovated and features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen, separate living/dining areas, a family room, a separate study and a large laundry.

The backyard has a large gazebo with an outdoor dining area and wood fireplace. There is also a large terrace overlooking an in-ground saltwater swimming pool.

Completing the picture is a large double-car garage with plenty of room for a workshop.

Mr Thompson said the home is being offered for sale because the owners are looking to downsize and it is already attracting a lot of interest, particularly from young families.

The home will be auctioned on Saturday, June 23 at 10.45 am and there is an open house scheduled for today (June 9) from 11 am to 11.30 am.
