Is Downer now under construction?

This is old news. The old shops site has been there for ages doing nothing with many proposals of what to do with it, one of the main ones being apartments although there has been some opposing residents. Guess they have finally decided to go ahead with it.

Thanks semaj. It would be good to know what is happpening to Downer Shops??? There’s still an “official” blue sign pointing out Downer Shops on Northbourne Avenue. I’d love to have a true local shop again (something like Lyneham or O’Connor Shops would be great but probably highly unlikely)!

Actually, it appears that the sign was put in the wrong place. It’s now been moved to the other side of Frencham St. There was a planning notice put up on the front lawn of the house on the corner there some months ago. I think they are knocking down two houses and putting in units.

So it looks like, as usual, nothing’s happening at Downer shops.

+1 I would like to be able to afford my own apartment sometime before I am 30 thankyou. Bring on the construction.

Lets remember people, that a small high density city is much easier on the environment then sprawling suburbia.

Thank you for your article on this is very important subject.Very informative and easy read.I think that due to recession the growth of construction has slow down which badly affected the economic development.Hope so i will get the further updates in future.
