Continuing work on Stage 1 of the light rail project means commuters will face intersection closures on Northbourne Avenue and Flemington Road between now and December.
Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) said a number of major intersections between Alinga Street and Flemington Road would be closed for periods during the latest construction works.
The first closure will be at the Barton Highway intersection with Northbourne Avenue from 10 pm Friday 10 November until 4 am on Monday 13 November. Traffic will not be able to turn right on to Northbourne Avenue from the Barton Highway or right on to the Barton Highway from the Federal Highway.
From 8 pm Sunday 12 November until 6 pm Sunday 10 December the Flemington Road intersection of Sandford Street and Morisset Road will be closed to all traffic turning right into Sandford Street and Morisset Road from Flemington Road, and closed to all traffic travelling across Sandford Street and Morisset Road.
To access Sandford Street, Mitchell, northbound traffic travelling along Flemington Road, towards Gungahlin can continue to turn left directly into Sandford Street. Southbound traffic travelling along Flemington Road towards the Federal Highway will need to turn right at Wells Station Drive to access Sandford Street via Hoskins Street.
The works associated with this closure will take place during the day (7 am to 6 pm).
From 10 pm Friday 17 November until 4 am Monday 20 November traffic will not be able to turn right into Mouat Street and Antill Street from Northbourne Avenue. Northbound and southbound traffic will remain unaffected.
TCCS said detours would be in place to divert all traffic including buses, and there would be highly visible traffic management throughout the works. Road users should observe traffic management signs and personnel.
Canberra Metro has not planned any major construction works on the light rail route during the Christmas holiday period from 22 December 2017 to 2 January 2018.
