Let me take you for a look in at The Nest in Red Hill – the home of Ian and Tina.

Full of contrasts, this home took three years to build and was completed two years ago.

From the grand entrance that features an internal maple tree courtyard, you can see that this is a home with a difference. One level is the connected living space that in a 360 radius contains everything from the kitchen, bar, dining, pool table and master bedroom to the outdoor patio, pools, spa and barbecue.

A private view of the sprawling Brindabellas brings instant peace as does the view down to the manicured flower and herb gardens.

There’s a lift that plays Star Wars as you ascend, taking you to a stunning rooftop lounge that presents the key iconic Canberra landmarks in an eye swoop. Sunsets are to die for in summer, as is watching the spectacle of autumn and fog roll over the city in winter.

Another lift, that plays the theme from Back to the Future, takes you down to the lower level that contains the second living quarters with a large living and three bedrooms and the “wow” moment – a massive car garage filled with vintage, classic and stunning cars.

As Ian and Tina put it: “This is a beautifully executed home to the upmost detail by DNA architects and Preferred Builders, but it is also a lot of fun and has a quirky side”.

I couldn’t agree more. Between the grand angles and heights as well as hidden rooms and structural marvels, it is a home that is full of warmth, playful spaces, museum-like historical importance and a celebration of nature. It’s a great reflection of its owners who are equally as warm and generous with their desire to share their creations, knowledge and contribution to the history of classic cars.

Take a look inside.
