An 83-year-old man was hospitalised early this morning after a man forced his way into the elderly resident’s Embling Street, Wanniassa home at around 1.20am and attacked him.

ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to what it has described as a “cowardly aggravated burglary”, and says the male offender has been described as between 35 and 45 years of age, around 180cm (5’11’’) in height with a slim build. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

Detective Station Sergeant Matt Reynolds said the man was injured during the attack and had been treated in hospital.

“This was an unprovoked and extremely cowardly assault on a vulnerable member of our community,” he said.

“This type of incident is unacceptable to the community and police. We are requesting information from the community to assist us in apprehending the person responsible for this cowardly assault.”
