Man dies and four people taken to hospital following head-on collision in Yass

A man has died and four people have been transported to hospital following a two-car collision on Yass Valley Way at Yass on the evening of Monday, 24 August.

The 43-year-old man who died at the scene was driving a Ford Territory that collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux at about 6:10 pm, according to NSW Police.

His passengers, a 43-year-old woman and two children aged 15 and 17, were airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

The 17-year-old had head and chest injuries and was in a serious condition. The woman and 15-year-old had minor injuries, according to a NSW Ambulance spokesperson.

Sergeant David Cowell of Yass Police Station said the 43-year-old man was not a local.

The Toyota driver, a 47-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle before being freed and taken to Canberra Hospital.

He had minor injuries, according to the NSW Ambulance spokesperson.

Five ambulance crews and two medical helicopters treated the patients on scene, the spokesperson said.

Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
