Monday parking mayhem

By Barcham 17 June 2013 27

Happy second day of the new week Rioters!

Let’s start our working week off with a bang by shaking our fingers and looking sternly at those uncouth individuals who cannot or will not park correctly.

1. One of our legion of anonymous Rioters has started the ball rolling this week:

This pic was taken Friday afternoon in the laneway behind the Southern Cross Club in Pitman St, Greenway.

All 3 cars are parked illegally. An hour later when I came back out after 10 year old’s basketball match, seven cars were parked illegally (in exactly the same way they do every time I go there).

Zip

2. Miranda has sent us this glowing image from Dickson tradies. I’m not sure quite what’s going on here, but I’ll trust her judgement.

Zim!

3. The Bus Driver has hauled in a magnificent load of photos:

Bad parking from Anzac Park West. The Green Daewoo was blocking in 2 cars.

Zop!

Zag!

Zog!

Zeb!

Zan!

Zud!

Zew!

Bad parking from Anslie Ave west, and a Volvo from Ried. The white car had nothing behind it but still needed to take up space from 2 parking spaces.

Zug!

Zef!

Zac!

Zir!

Zod!

Zaw!

4. The ever reliable Bubzie shot this for us:

Spotted in Dickson.

Zet!

5. Our mate Kate has our backs with this tiny picture:

Tuggeranong hyperdome underground parking Saturday morning

Zom!

6. Loxmyf returns to familiar territory:

Jamison features again. This twit has not only parked the wrong side of the No Standing sign, he’s also well over the line and into the lane. Yes, he’s napping behind the wheel.

Ziv!

7. BigRed has his eye on the time:

Spotted this cab in Furzer St Woden, about 4:15 last Friday. I estimate it sat in the no stopping zone for approx
15 minutes.

Zok!

8. Jason brings a touch of elegance to our parking photos:

A touch of bad parking spotted behind the realm.

Zoy!

The Hebrew or traditional Christian calendars designated Sunday as the first day of the week but the secular among us generally ascribe to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 8601 where Sunday is the seventh and last day of the week.

Do we? I missed that memo.

The ISO system as far as I knew was a date keeping system to help make like easier for government departments and the like to use in their book keeping, when did it become the official calendar of atheism?

Look it seems I’ve inadvertently opened a barrel of monkeys here when I wasn’t aware or a barrel to begin with. I wonder does else anyone actually believe that the idea of switching around the first day of the week is an odd and pointless thing or is it just me?

I’m not really fussed as to whether Sunday or Monday is considered the first day (like I said, I kinda think Thursday should be), but I find the idea that it has changed, or that different people believe different things about it, or that it’s somehow tied to your stance on religion, to be rather silly.

The idea that people obviously care enough about this to call me out on it (let alone accuse me of being a pedant or ignorant) is very strange.

We jest because we love you, don’t get too worked up about it :p

But On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work… Are you suggesting that God created the second day of the week first, and the first day of the week seventh? That is as whacky as using the bible as a reference in an argument.

I was unaware

Ignorant, darling. The word you’re looking for is ‘ignorant’.

Yes! In your face, Barcham! :p 😀

Everyone knows the end of the week is Friday, ergo the start of the week must be Saturday, so you’re all wrong.

Who seriously gets up on Sunday morning thinking its the first day of the week??

Pedants who want to make regular people feel stupid. You know, despite the fact that everyone, including these pedants, consider Sunday a part of the weekend, with Monday therefore logically being the first day of the new week.

No offense, Barchy :p

But if we take our cues from Canadian 80s supergroup Lover Boy (and I, for one, recommend we do), everybody is working for the weekend. They make a strong case.

The quote that comes up as “moderated” when i look at it was supposed to say:

“A date is specified by the ISO week-numbering year in the format YYYY, a week number in the format ww prefixed by the letter W, and the weekday number, a digit d from 1 through 7, beginning with Monday and ending with Sunday. For example, 2006-W52-7 (or in compact form 2006W527) is the Sunday of the 52nd week of 2006. In the Gregorian system this day is called 31 December 2006.”

I am honestly surprised that this is a topic of discussion, I was unaware of rogue calendar factions.

And also apparently unaware of ISO 8601 Data elements and interchange formats – Information interchange – Representation of dates and times.

This states:

A date is specified by the ISO week-numbering year in the format YYYY, a week number in the format ww prefixed by the letter W, and the weekday number, a digit d from 1 through 7, beginning with Monday and ending with Sunday. Wait… what?

Monday is the second day of the week.

Have I missed something?

Why would anyone think otherwise? Because some people start work on Monday? Do they believe that 9am is the first hour of the day too?

I’ve not made a conscious decision to pretend Sunday is the first day of the week in order to look smart, it just is the start of the week so why would I pretend otherwise?

Logic has nothing to do with it.

Arbitrary unit of time called a week starts on arbitrary day of said week.

7 days starting Sunday.

I am honestly surprised that this is a topic of discussion, I was unaware of rogue calendar factions.

The idea is appealing though, can I start up a group that believes Thursday is the start of the week because that’s when new movies come out?

That would generally be the Arab states of the Persian Gulf where Barkum’s roots lie, well ostensibly at least 🙂

Sorry, I must have missed the part where it somehow became JB’s fault that these people chose to park illegally in a public place.

No doubt it relates to his riding a bicycle with malice aforethought.
