Look it seems I’ve inadvertently opened a barrel of monkeys here when I wasn’t aware or a barrel to begin with. I wonder does else anyone actually believe that the idea of switching around the first day of the week is an odd and pointless thing or is it just me?

I’m not really fussed as to whether Sunday or Monday is considered the first day (like I said, I kinda think Thursday should be), but I find the idea that it has changed, or that different people believe different things about it, or that it’s somehow tied to your stance on religion, to be rather silly.

The idea that people obviously care enough about this to call me out on it (let alone accuse me of being a pedant or ignorant) is very strange.

But On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work… Are you suggesting that God created the second day of the week first, and the first day of the week seventh? That is as whacky as using the bible as a reference in an argument.

Everyone knows the end of the week is Friday, ergo the start of the week must be Saturday, so you’re all wrong.

Pedants who want to make regular people feel stupid. You know, despite the fact that everyone, including these pedants, consider Sunday a part of the weekend, with Monday therefore logically being the first day of the new week.

But if we take our cues from Canadian 80s supergroup Lover Boy (and I, for one, recommend we do), everybody is working for the weekend. They make a strong case.

The quote that comes up as “moderated” when i look at it was supposed to say:

“A date is specified by the ISO week-numbering year in the format YYYY, a week number in the format ww prefixed by the letter W, and the weekday number, a digit d from 1 through 7, beginning with Monday and ending with Sunday.
