More advice please?

Can anyone tell me a good place in Canberra to get a motorcycle seat re-covered?

Also I need a spare set of keys for the bike and the lock cut.

Well at long last I got it done!

Recommended by a friend of the family, I took it to Robert at Peggs’s Auto Trim in McGregor. I cannot speak highly enough of the service and work done, far exceeded my expectations.

The seat was actually done “while you wait”, as a favour, seeing as I’d been sent by a mate of the owner.

The seat is now bright red, matching the colour scheme of the bike, and I’m seriously considering having the passenger seat recovered in the same colour, even though it doesn’t need recovering. The price was very reasonable. (I’m not saying how much as I got “mates rates”.)

I also have a new foam lining to give it extra bit of comfort.

Highly professional and friendly service there, contact details;

This is how much of a joke it was, as soon as I took it back for the inspection with the original pipe, he didn’t use the noise meter, just said, “yep that’s better, so the other pipe goes back this arvo then?”. And it did.
He did also admit it was a joke as so many bikes out there are far louder than mine (with the loud pipe on) and mine is predominantly for off road.
Going slightly off topic, any off roaders here that’d like to hook up for a ride? I might set up a separate thread.

Thanks Spectra, I too got a bike on the weekend and seeing as it’s been over 20 years since last owning one, I’ve enrolled in the CIT course. Unfortunately I was knocked back on the rego inspection yesterday as it’s too loud.

I’m glad to hear they’re doing that. However, all you had to do was stick a little badge on it saying Harley Davidson and you would have been fine, as they can be as loud as they like (as we have all noticed).

Ooops! Haven’t even looked at it yet. How embarrassing!

Hey PB, how did you go with getting your seat reupholstered?
I redid both of mine on the weekend, and it was surprisingly a cheap and easy exercise.

How did you, ahem, acquire this machine! 😉
.

LOL!! I need a spare set of keys cut. I only have one set, and keys in my possession have a strange attraction towards drains…

If you find someone who does a good job on the seat let us know – need one done on a virago I want to sell.

Will do.

Both my bikes are looked after by either myself TJs(for dirty stuff) in Braddon. If you find someone who does a good job on the seat let us know – need one done on a virago I want to sell.

…also sounds like it would be a bit of a v-twin fest…

My bike has three cylinders, can I still join? Although my other one has one cylinder, so I guess I average a twin.

Speaking of bike, I am going to leave work on mine right now!

We could ask Joel Mason for advice on where to get a bike fixed… Apparently he need a little help at one stage..

Or we could get him to be our leader on the RiotActBikeClub rides – only we will have to try hard to keep up..

It is pleasant to find so many here. I’ve just returned to biking after a break of errmmmmm.. far too many years. The difference being that here you can own a bike as a commuter vehicle, and actually bloody use it. I’ve been sending biker mates in the UK links to the BOM website, saying “another fine day to get out on the bike then..” The replies are unprintable here, and anatomically impossible in any case.

The number of motorcyclist suggests that there is potential for a RiotACT riders group ??

Sounds like it – also sounds like it would be a bit of a v-twin fest – between you (guessing from your name), PB’s SV and my Firestorm we’re off to a good start 🙂

And Vtwin Venom, its sounds like there is the potential.

She said let’s ride – rev it up, rev it up little boy and ride…

” For a “more senior rider”, look at the Ulysses Club, http://www.ulyssesclub.org. Or there is the Rebels… “

I have ridden with both and both are good fun 🙂

What sort of bike are you on PB?

Bruce at Mitchell is very good but if you have something European or a lusty big twin I’d recommend Axle in Phillip.

Ride safe and often

Yes pom.

Cheapest insurance I’ve found is QBE, based in West Australia.

(They even give a further discount if you are in a member of a club.)

Any discount for the… ahem… more senior rider?

Bugger. You don’t really need to be in a member, just in a club….

I take it that you bought it privately and not through a dealer? If a dealer, there are sometimes advantages in getting the first service there – that way, you can tell them what a bucket of shit they’ve sold you.

Private deal, a good’n too.

The CIT runs a motorbike maintenance course (http://www.citace.edu.au/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Cit.woa/wa/module.shtml?ID=ENG1002) that you might find useful. I don’t service my bike, but I do minor bits and pieces after doing this.

Many thanks for that, I’ll look into it!

Coincidentally, Mat is the fellow who gives the CIT maintenance course – if you’re new to bikes, I can’t recommend it highly enough – best couple of hundred bucks I ever spent.

PB: For servicing, check out fellow by the name of Mat McCrudden who runs Total Motorcycle Solutions out of a shed in Queanbeyan. He’s a top bloke who knows his stuff and won’t rip you off – well worth the extra distance I have to travel to get there. I’ve also heard good things about Bruce’s Motorcycles in Mitchell. From past experience, I’d steer clear of both the Canberra Motorcycle Centres for servicing (they’re fine if you need parts etc though).

Many thanks for the tips to all.

Anyone got any good tips for a relatively new bike owner?

Servicing? Parts? etc?

Thanks in advance, PB.

At risk of giving you a bum steer, going to any automotive or marine upholsterer will do the trick.

For the motorcycle seat I’d probably try Dave at Top Cat Upholstery at 26 Grenville Court Phillip – (02) 6285 2627

Hubby is in the motor trade and they use him all the time for car seat repairs and re-upholstering.

Pris

PB, I don’t know about seat recovering, but I got spare keys for my bike cut at CLASS at 51 Kembla St, Fyshwick. They have all the blanks so should not be a problem.
