The proposed Batemans Bay Marine Park has caused a lot of stir. The stir has roused national parks association’s marine campaigner, Paul Winn into speaking to the ABC.
As far as I can undestand the piece, he’s worried that the public is being misinformed and aren’t being told what the park’s benefits will be. Only I’m buggered if I can understand what those benefits are:
“The conservationists are concerned that some of that misinformation is being spread to garner an opposition to marine parks without really recognising some of the major benefits, international experience with marine parks and sanctuary zones, and that is some of the things that we’ve been talking to the local conservationists about, how to actually get some of that real information out to the public.”
