Police release footage of alleged rail stop assault

UPDATED 2:50 pm: The man has now come forward and is assisting police with enquiries.

ACT Policing has released CCTV footage of an alleged assault at the Ipima Street Light Rail stop last month.

About 11:30 am on Tuesday, 24 January 2023, a woman was approached by an unknown man seeking the use of a mobile phone. A short time later, she was allegedly assaulted by the man. He walked away, then allegedly assaulted her a second time.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 170cm (5’7”) tall, with a solid build, short brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a white, short-sleeved t-shirt, black track pants, and white shoes at the time of the assault.

Anyone who can identify the man from the CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

I hope they catch this dope. The police should be showing pictures and videos of criminal acts on a regular basis. It would make their duties much easier and crims may have second thoughts before breaking the law if they think they may be recognised by their friends and family
