Alleged burglar caught in Forde backyard

A 19-year-old woman will face court today for property, burglary and assault offences after a resident caught her in his Forde back garden yesterday afternoon.

About 3pm yesterday, the man returned to his home to discover the woman in his back yard. A struggle ensued with a neighbour assisting the man to restrain her until police arrived.

The offender was arrested a few minutes later and transported to the ACT Watch House.

Police identified a number of items in her possession including a set of keys, later identified to be the keys to a stolen motor vehicle. This vehicle was subsequently located by police.

Police investigations into the vehicle and further suspected stolen property are continuing.

The 19-year-old woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with burglary, unlawful possession of stolen property and common assault.

On this occasion the quick response by the home owner and neighbour to contact police assisted in a rapid resolution of the matter.
