Salmon Pies

By misspris 8 April 2009 30

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a bakery in Canberra that sells salmon pies over Easter?

Bryants Pies in Goulburn do a lovely salmon pie but since I won’t be in Goulburn on Friday I’d hoped someone in here might be able to recommend a bakery in Canberra.

had salmon as part of lunch today – just fried the chunks with a drizzle of sesame oil, tumeric, lemon juice and worcestershire sauce – yum. am going to attempt a version of the recipe above for sunday’s lunch with the other hunks we bought. yum. might go with a dry white, or even a straight cabernet rather than a cider, though that does sound like a combination to try!

bon apetit everyone and happy easter… good, this friday, huh? not at work!

WMC, you forgot the cider 😉

I love Christians. “Yes, we’re doing it tough in memory of our Lord and Savior’s suffering. No meat for us – just fresh Atlantic salmon at $29/kg, cream, butter, white wine, flaky pastry…I can practically feel the nails going in!”

I didn’t have any mozzarella so I put in left over havarti… mmmmm

I’m going to make this salmon pie tomorrow (tinned salmon here too).
But do you really put mozzarella on it?

Well, you don’t have to cheese it up, just put a standard pastry top on it instead.

I like life too much, jessieduck, and good stuff! Then it wants to go and hang around my bits, and I have to show it who’s boss for a while. Then I get to have fun again!

: )

Sounds really nice, I wish I ate fish. But they smell exactly like the Fyshwick Poo Farm to me.

I want to try one of these Easter Beaster pies they were on about on the radio this morning. I love a good pie, did anyone get one of these? Are they really that good?

Might give that a go, but use smoked spotty carp (trout) instead of salmon.

Are salmon pies some sort of traditional easter treat here?

Not that I know of.

Probably something to do with those who choose not to eat meat on good friday.

It’ll be steak night for me!!

Cheers neanderthalsis for scoring me big points at home with that one!!

Mine just came out of the oven- I did canned salmon because it wasn’t handy to go to a fishmongers today. I put a pie crust over the top and sprinkled it with poppy seeds, baked it for 45mins at 200 and bobs your uncle- looks a treat.

Oh, and I added onions and chives as well.

I was going to make boring tuna mornay on Good Friday … but I’m going to try the Salmon pie for a change. Sounds fab!

Why would you need to be on a diet you silly granny!?!

Granny 5:24 pm 08 Apr 09

I think it sounds like a taste sensation! It’s a must try when I finish my diet.

It sounds pretty easy. I may give it a go.
If anyone else is making one, please take a pic as I want to see the result.

It is rather easy to make. Occasionally I’ll do prawns & scallops or marinara mix instead of the salmon. Just fry them lightly instead of poaching.

My missus turned her nose up at the idea today so I guess I won’t be having this 🙁

You could always give it a go yourself Dante.

Gross!

My bf’s thoughts when he came home from lunch and I told him my plan and I read him the recipe, hates salmon and most seafood and only ate it if his mum made him on Good Friday’s (heard that one a few times..). He said yep he would agree to this if we could go past Macca’s on the way. Is okay, I’ll make it up to him later and he’ll probably get his Macca’s.
