Severe thunderstorm warning

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Canberra.

The specific warning warns that by 6.40pm in the Weston Creek and the Woden Valley area damaging winds are likely.

The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has units ready to respond for any reports of damage.

For emergency storm and flood assistance you can call the ACTSES on 132-500.

The Bureau of Meterology has reissued the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Canberra for damaging wind.

Severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Tuggeranong, South Canberra, Weston Creek, Woden Valley and Hume.

The storms are moving north, forecast to affect Belconnen, Canberra Civic and Hall by 7.05pm and Gungahlin by 7.35pm.

Residents who require storm or flood assistance can call the ACT State Emergency Service on 132-500.
