I remember playing City Suburban firsts cricket on the ground across the road from this church.
I was bowling some nice little offies into a breeze, had 4 wickets for about 20 and was looking at wrapping the innings up.
This big fat bloke came out at number 8 or 9.
My first ball to him ripped back and hit his thigh.
my second ripped back, took the glove and balooned up on the on side, but with no fileder there.
now with a short leg in place I decided to slip in arm ball, which drifted away nicely. he took a big swipe, got an underneath edge which was dropped by the keeper.
I was ropable, but it was only a metter of a few more balls to get this guy out.
The next ball was nicely flighted just outside off.
It bounced on the road before bouncing a second time in the front yard of the church!
have a look at how far that is if you drive past 🙂
I find it fascinating that the crucifix above the altar is intact although there is burnt timber all round.
