A stunning home that boasts some of Canberra’s best views and backs onto Red Hill Nature Reserve has gone on the market in Garran for a price said to be below the cost of a similar-sized vacant block of land in the area.

The architecturally-designed mid-century home at 10 Bonwick Place has just been completely restored at a cost of around $500,000 and features five double bedrooms, three bathrooms, five carports, a large 1088 square metre block, an in-ground swimming pool, a fire pit and uninterrupted views that can’t be built out.

On the market for $1,825,000, the home is within walking distance of Canberra Hospital and only seven kilometres from Parliament House. Its rare views are due to its elevated position at the end of a cul-de-sac.

“The location is incredible. There are 180-degree views from every window in the house,” said listing agent Jane Kusetic from Cream Residential.

“I’ve lived in Garran for 30 years and I’ve always thought that this is the best spot to live in.”

Ms Kusetic said the home is “an excellent investment for an astute buyer” with a vacant block of land of a similar size in Sabine Place, Garran, selling late last year for $1.9 million.

She said the home is constructed of steel and double concrete bock – meaning it is solid and built to last.

Another special feature is a downstairs studio which Ms Kusetic said could be used for a variety of purposes or rented out for around $350 per week.

The current owners spent around 18 months fully restoring the home which now features a new kitchen, butler’s pantry, bathrooms, electrics, heating, cooling, double glazing, floor and window coverings, extensive landscaping and more.

Ms Kustic said the home has “a sublime feel” with its high ceilings and abundance of natural light. The split level layout flows seamlessly out on to landscaped resort style gardens.

the vacant sabine close block was a package lot of two adjacent blocks with RZ2 zoning, meaning the development potential was much greater considering the overall size of the two blocks in sabine close about 1800m2, so that vacant land isn’t really comparing apples with apples.
