The best jewellers in Canberra

If you’re looking for jewellery for a special occasion or perhaps you just want something new, you most likely don’t have time to go to several jewellery and compare them.

Home, life and work commitments most likely keep you running and busy every day. This doesn’t leave you a lot of extra time to research jewellery in Canberra and the surrounding area. You want to ensure that you’re getting quality jewellery from a reliable source.

We’ll share our top picks for the best Canberra jewellers along with important criteria that you want to keep in mind when you’re considering a new jeweller. This way, you can get that new piece of jewellery you’ve been dreaming of.

What Makes a Reliable Jeweller?

Jewellery can be an expensive investment, and you want to be completely confident that your jeweller sells high-quality pieces and has a great reputation. We suggest that you look for the following traits.

  • They’re reputable and established. You want to pick a jeweller that has a solid reputation for excellent customer service and high-quality wares. Also, it’s usually best to go to a jeweller who has been in business for years because they’ve had time to build up their experience and reputation.
  • You can trust them. It’s important that you feel comfortable and trust your jeweller. Can you ask them questions? Good jewellers listen and focus on what you’re looking for. They’ll show you what you want as well as options you haven’t considered without leaving you feeling overwhelmed.
  • Wide selection and varied services. Look for a jeweller that offers a wide variety of jewellery. Ideally, they’ll have a gemologist on staff to help you find the perfect stone, a bench jeweller on staff to help repair or resize your jewellery, and they offer custom work.
  • Clear policies with fair prices. The policies should be easy to understand, fair, clear and concise. You’ll want to review them when you’re purchasing your jewellery so you have a good understanding if you have to use them.

I would not recommend McGlades, they reined my eternity ring! Terrible job! Had to get it fixed by Briolette in Manuka. A big shame they have closed down!

I had my engagement, wedding and eternity rings made at Vangeli in Woden and so did my best friend and her sister too! I would never go anywhere else. We love Jeff!

There are lots of jewellers in Canberra that send your jewellery away to be made because they can’t actually do it themselves. Jeff does everything at his big workshop in Woden from beginning to end. Jeff is the only jeweller I would ever trust with my jewellery.

My only advice would be to book early, he is in high demand.

Both the wife and I had our wedding rings made at Creations in Manuka. Service was good, price was good and the items themselves are lovely. Would recommend.

A few years ago there was a Jeweller at the Hyperdome called ‘Hypers’. The mans name was Micheal, who worked with his wife (not sure of her name). Micheal was excellent and very well priced. He is gone from the Hyperdome, but does anyone know where to? If you can find Micheal I would recommend using him.

I can’t speak to the quality from personal experience. But this lot have some stunning and original designs
They are in Bunda St

Agree but you have to have some serious cash to fork out on a ring at Aharoni cause Eytan only deals in gold and the best gems. If you’re willing to think outside the box a little, then they do have cute necklaces made of coloured silver.

I know this is a bit of a way out, but I went to the subcontinent fairly recently and it was astonishing how big the gulf was between the prices we pay here compared to there.

I’m not big on jewellery myself, but I worked out that if one was to spend more than, say, $4,000, it would actually work out cheaper to go over there and get something really remarkable.

If you like I can go into a bit more detail, but I can assure you that I will struggle to justify buying any jewellery (maybe exception of some pearls and opals – ‘native’ to oz) in Australia ever again.

The travel costs of going up to Sydney will be offset by how much cheaper Sydney jewellers are than Canberra.

Having said that, there is a talented old guy who’s located in Woden near the post office. Right next to the Soul Bar. I think it might be called Vangeli’s.

You can get top quality stuff over the net for about 1/3 less than what you’d pay in Canberra. Check out: and any of a dozen other large internet jewellers.

savalas savalas 4:12 pm 24 Jan 14 in the Canberra Centre, Civic has a nice range of unique stuff.

If you want a ring handmade, you could also try Harry Rose in Garema Place, also in Civic:

McGlades under the impeccable skills and discerning taste of gemmologist Angie is the equal of any in the region… but don’t take my word for it, check out the number of customers they have these days.
