A 53-year-old Melba woman was arrested yesterday (Monday, January 9) after biting a police officer who pulled her over for a traffic stop.
About noon, the police officer identified the woman not wearing a seat belt while driving a white Mazda 626 on Childers Street in Acton.
The woman became belligerent and uncooperative toward police when requested to produce her licence. She refused to provide her details to the officer and continued to verbally abuse him. The woman exited her car and began to walk away.
As the officer went to place the woman under arrest she has assaulted the member by punching him repeatedly to the chest. The officer was bitten on the forearm as he restrained the woman.
The woman was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where she was charged with failing to wear a seat belt, providing a false name and causing harm to a Commonwealth public official.
She was given Watch House bail and will be summonsed to attend the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
