The Garbos are revolting with the teachers

As the teachers set about ruining a year’s education with their strikes the ABC also has news that they’re being joined by the city’s garbage collectors (contracted by a private company, not the Government).

Residential garbage collection is not expected to be affected at this point.

Frankly I am thankful for the reliable garbos and I always leave a few beers out at Christmas. Can’t understand why increases in pace with CPI are so difficult for employers to come at (be they govie or private). The pollies (at both levels) are damn good at rewarding themselves, even using exclusive tribunals and the like so they don’t get caught by the laws that affect the hoi polloi. Fair’s fair.

Oi! Teachers didn’t go on strike for ages until the last EBA (previous to this one).

If Andrew Barr pulled his head out of his arse he’d realise that you can’t put “lay” people in the job so stop pissing off the teachers.

Oh and I didn’t strike today, nor do I ever. I am in the Non-Govt system this year.

Johnboy,

I disagree with your comment that they are ruining a years education. I vividly remember the strikes that happened when I was a kid, and they were fun. The year certainly was not ruined.

Teachers are always going on strike.

Teachers will allways go on strike.

Until they learn to ‘screw the system’ for all it is worth. At least 9% THIS YEAR…

Go for it.

Anyway, I’ll enjoy the day off with the kids. Might even go down to the park and fly a kite.

Get some bonding in…

We were having a chat around the office, and one of the guys here is a part timer in the private system –

Big changes-

– 9 scales down to to 3.

– between 9-12 % salary increase this year. Not over the next 3 years, THIS YEAR.

God, I love private industry!!!

Hopefully the union the garbos have will push for 3-4%, just like the union the teachers have do…
