Canberra’s newest property, the Burbury Hotel, is the first in Australia to redefine the guest experience using Apple’s Mac-Mini®-based hospitality platform for delivery of an IPTV solution from Square-i International.

The in-room IPTV solution, developed by Square-i International, offers guests full Mac computer functionality, iPod, iPad and iPhone-docking, high definition TV, Foxtel®, play-your-own CDs/DVDs, pay-per-view movies, a digital concierge (eg: bill viewing), guest directories and local attractions guide. It’s a home-away-from-home entertainment and office system.

Impressively, Square-i International has done away with the guest nightmare of unfamiliar, button-laden remote controls by developing one sleek, 6-click remote unit that manages everything.

“This is a stand-out feature for guests and one of the many reasons why we chose the Apple platform for its elegance and simplicity of design,” says Emil Kovacik, General Manager of the Burbury Hotel.

“We needed a solution that matched the sophistication of our new property, not only in terms of look and feel, but function,” says Mr Kovacik.

“The system is bespoke, with a full range of functionality that we can tailor to enhance the guest experience, such as playing their own CDs, DVDs and iPod or iPhone music through the television, or to extend our business activity,” says Mr Kovacik.

Square-i Apple IPTV is also fully integrated with the Burbury’s Property Management Software (PMS), displaying Burbury branding, and instantly updates changes to guest information across the hotel’s 106 rooms.

For guests travelling with a laptop, ease of WiFi to their device for automatic connectivity and immediate web-surfing. In-room guests can enjoy Bluetooth connectivity to add a wireless keyboard and trackpad to the mac mini, where Computer Mode offers the full functionality and applications of a normal Mac within the hotel system. On check-out, all guest files are automatically removed and the system is reset.

“The Burbury’s contemporary aesthetic was defined to make its mark, from the rooftop terrace and function area with sweeping views to its refined, urbane interior. Our pioneering of the Square-i Apple IPTV in-room system is an integral part of that delivery,” says Mr Kovacik.

Burbury Hotel will maintain the same high standards of its parent hotel, Hotel Realm and will take the total number of rooms in the Realm Precinct to 264. It is the next stage in the exciting development that is the Realm Precinct.
