Drawing inspiration from Ween and The Beatles, Beta Blockers have been steadily increasing their profile in the CBR local music scene with their irresistible tunesmithery. Omar Musa’s award-winning one-man show “Since Ali Died”, a personal exploration of his time growing in Queanbeyan, will be played from the 30th of January til the 2nd of February at the Canberra Theatre Centre, the first show having already sold out. Meanwhile on Thursday, Sam Buckingham hits the road to promote her new album “Hammer and Love”, playing at Smith’s Alternative with Sarah Humphreys from 7 pm.
Friday features a stack of shows, including The Tipsy Scholars with Guyy & The Fox at The Phoenix from 8 pm, The Nathan Beretta Band over at the Austrian Australian Club, plus a big night of grime music over at Transit Bar, with Smash Bros, Alex Jones, Flimzy, JLP and more playing from 8 pm. Saturday is just as big, with town favourite Jack Biilmann taking the stage at the Old Canberra Inn, the launch of a new label/agency – Turning Heads – featuring stablemates Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, Sputnik Sweethearts and more at The Phoenix, while Central Coast band The Sea Gypsies make it inland to play at The Basement to play with Swift Peaks, Harrison Lambert and more.
