UPDATED 12:35 pm, 5 August: Police have arrested three men in relation to the stabbing death of Canberra Comancheros commander Pitasoni Ulavalu following a shooting that occurred in the early hours of this morning.

The arrests were made in Garran after another man presented at The Canberra Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The circumstances surrounding this man’s injuries are under investigation.

A 26-year-old man is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday (6 August) charged with the murder of Ulavalu.

Two other men, a 22-year-old and a 23-year-old were also arrested, and are expected in court on Thursday on charges of affray, associated with the stabbing.

Bail will be opposed.

The investigation remains ongoing and ACT Policing Criminal Investigations detectives anticipate further arrests regarding the stabbing of Pitasoni Ulavalu.

Superintendent of Criminal Investigations Scott Moller said the two other men arrested have links to the Comancheros Outlaw Motorcycle Gang both within the ACT and interstate.

“They are certainly links between outlaw motorcycle groups, some of whom are members of the Comancheros,” Supt Moller said.

Supt Moller would not elaborate on the circumstances of the stabbing of Mr Ulavalu, other than to say that more than 200 witnesses had come forward during the investigation, which also remains ongoing.

He said a team of 27 highly skilled investigators from a number of areas within ACT Policing were coordinating the investigation with interstate bureaus.

Supt Moller said he was shocked by the shooting overnight in Garran and that any member of an outlaw motorcycle gang should be “very concerned” by the events.

“We also need to stop the recruitment of these people into motorcycle gangs. Realistically, they are not delivering teddy bears at Christmas, and that’s the bottom line. They are shooting people, they are stabbing people and bashing people and we are seeing that in Canberra,” he said.
