My wife and I were looking at the apple tree in our back corner a couple of weeks ago, and discussing how it could do with a decent prune by someone who has half a clue about what they’re doing. The apples it produces are pretty lousy, but it’s the only established tree in our back yard – and it’s going to take a few years before the trees we planted after moving in get to any decent size.
Naturally, the week after that, we got a letter from ACTEW about that same tree needing to be pruned, as it’s too close to our building supply power line (the insulated line from the pole to our house, not the high voltage lines).
I could prune it myself, given it’s only close to the supply line, but we kinda want to get it back into good shape – god knows how many years it was allowed to grow wild before we moved in – given it was a rental before we bought it, I’d say it’s not seen any decent attention for a long time.
Does anyone have any recommendations? It’s not a big job, and the list that came in the letter from ACTEW are all tree surgeons, which is probably overkill for this job, and probably a lot more expensive than a decent gardener who could easily do what we need.
