Truck fire closes Federal Highway overnight

A truck carrying motor oil caught fire while travelling on the Federal Highway on Wednesday night (30 January), blocking the highway for several hours overnight.

Around 10:30 pm, a semi-trailer carrying motor oil and paper was travelling south on the Federal Highway near Sutton when a fire took hold under the trailer.

NSW Police said the 49-year-old male driver escaped the vehicle uninjured as the truck went up in flames.

Police attended the scene and diverted traffic via the Old Federal Highway.

The southbound lanes were closed till 2:30 am while emergency services put out the fire and cleaned the oil off the roadway.
