Tuggeranong pool redevelopment failure

Brendan Smyth is making merry with delays in getting the redevelopment of the Tuggernong Pool finished in time for summer.

The Minister for Sport has a number of important questions to answer about this latest Stanhope Government fiasco:

      — why has the Tuggeranong Pool project been so poorly planned that the project is so far behind schedule?
      — where are the funds coming from to pay for the compensation?
      — what will happen to those families who have paid fees who will now not have access to a Pool for their classes?

“This latest failure to manage a relatively small capital works project also raises concerns about the proposed upgrade of the dome at the Civic Pool – and another question: what alternative arrangements are being considered for the Pacific School Games, in the event that the Civic Pool is not ready in time for this event?

Anyone know what it is all about?

Brendyn is certainly jumping in the deep end with this one!

thanks realityskin – bit rude of me to leave October out, 2 months late indeed. Oh well my daughter will have to wait another month before going back to swimming lessons. I am sure we can find other things to do in the meantime

what surprised me when the pool upgrades were announced is why the Civic one wasn’t done over winter, instead they wait until spring when people will actually want to use it.

2 months … 33% extra

errgh, tell me about it, it was either last week, or the week before, i couldnt even walk into my own work without getting ambushed with a pamphlet waving politician in my face at southlands.. sigh.

So the pool will open a month later than expected, hardly a failure but no doubt a nuisance for some sporting bodies but thats life. Get the kids into their lessons a month later, thats what I will be doing. I hate election year, even last weekend there were a heap of party faithful handing out pamphlets at Kambah Village – isnt the election in October?

well, i can now safely say, the delay’s costing me extra money to get to anywhere else with a pool..sigh. those were the days, when i could of just walked there from school..

Woops – I duplicated my comments.

Maybe Tuggeranong pool can be redeveloped to have a single lane in each direction. Then when it comes in over-budget and behind schedule, the Stanhope govt could announce a duplication.

It was reported yesterday that the delay is costing a couple of swimming clubs who now have to hire extras lanes. It will also hurt the families that have booked their kids into swimming classes in Sept. with the expectation that the pool will open on time.

Not sure if th ACT Gov’t can be blamed really but there are one or two Project Managers who need their arses kicked.

Opening has been changed from 1 September to 1 November because apparently the sourcing of tiles has been hard and they are way behind schedule … but as a plus, they will upgrade change rooms and the movable bulkhead with the spare time they have.

nope – but i didn’t even know that there was to be a redevelopment of the tuggeranong pool – but then, i haven’t been for a while.
