A 22-year-old Phillip man and a 24-year-old Gilmore man faced court yesterday in connection with an aggravated robbery at the McDonald’s restaurant in Conder on Monday morning (2 October).

ACT Policing said that about 4 am on Monday, a man armed with a knife jumped through the restaurant’s drive-through window after it was opened by a staff member. He then ordered other staff members to sit on the floor and demanded cash.

After taking a sum of cash from the safe and the cash register, the offender fled the restaurant on foot through the back door.

On Tuesday morning, Armed Robbery Team and Criminal Investigations officers arrested the two men at a house in Gilmore after receiving a tip-off.

Police also found in the rear yard of the Gilmore property a Mitsubishi Galant that had been stolen from a Farrer residence earlier that day.

The 24-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery. The 22-year-old was charged with knowingly concerned aggravated robbery, burglary, theft, driving a motor vehicle without consent and driving while disqualified.

ACT Policing is urging anyone with information relating to aggravated robberies, or information about people conspiring to commit aggravated robberies to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously and rewards of up to $1,000 may be applicable.
