We have a new ACT Emergency Services Commissioner – Gregor Manson

johnboy 21 November 2006 17

Simon Corbell has announced that he’s found someone willing to be his Emergency Services Commissioner. In this case the lucky fella is a Mr. Gregor Manson.

It is unknown at this time if Mr. Manson likes having his structures jerked around by an incompetent executive Government, or being told to lie to the public about risks by the PR flacks of that Government, but time will tell.

Ari, he does, they worked as a team. Charles would light them, Greg would extinguish them.

Good to see Gregor pop-up again …. he was in the school of forestry.

One of the more sensible forestry students.

…but he’s pretty cut-throat when he wants to be…

…and he treats his personnel like one big Family.

The answer is no, Ari – but for some reason he does like Polanski films…

I hope none of that megre budget is earmarked for new uniforms for the senior management.

still say he has a lot of work to do with very little budget. Global warming caused the US fire service to go $100,000,000 over budget this year which is more than the GDP of some of our smaller territories.

Agreed Al. Worked with this bloke too, and he is on song.

Thanks Big Al,

That’s good to hear.

Has he got a brother Charles?

I suspect that we could do a lot worse than Gregor Manson. My memory of working with him nearly a decade ago was of a top-order manager consummate in the skill of taking the hard decisions and convincing his political masters of the need to do what was required, rather than what was most politically expedient.

He’s been shafted by the NSW Labor party machine before when he revealed the former NSW Environment Minister Pam Allen to be significantly less able than her PR spin-meisters would have had us believe. So he’s no novice when it comes to living with the implications of squaring up to fickle, feckless and less-than-competent politicians (of which he no doubt will have an abundance to choose from in this current Government).

My guess is he’ll do what it takes to get the job done right and if Standope doesn’t like it, he’ll get sacked trying. Either way, he’ll sleep well at night knowing that it wasn’t for the want of trying.

Thumper and the rest of the good folk who bust a butt to keep the rest of us safe each summer mightn’t always like Manson’s way of doing business, but on the other hand they wont have an Emergency Services CEO who crawls into the corner of the room and sticks his head up his butt when things go c*nt up either.

It’s a false stat, not surprisingly.

Let’s see, if I employ 500,000 people for 2 hours then I could say the same.

I would have rathered seen the figure for how many hours he has personally been in charge of for Emergency Operations.

Anyway, he’ll be a busy boy, its hot and windy out there…

Some friends and I have already done the math on the million hours it comes out at about 24 people working to him for 20 years or 48 people for 10 years, etc, etc . . .

So not unattainable or extraordinary, really.
