The ACT Government has announced it will spend $410,000 in next month’s Budget to upgrade security at the Canberra Theatre Centre and commit a further $50,000 to promote the staging of a major show in Canberra.
The details of the major show are yet to be announced.
The security upgrades will allow the complex to host larger and better shows, according to the government.
Minister for the Arts Chris Bourke said that the two new funding commitments would take the Government’s investment into the Canberra Theatre Centre to a total of $9.5 million during its current term.
Earlier commitments had been spent on three stages of upgrades to the theatre complex since 2013, and as with today’s announced funding were on top of operating costs for the centre covered by the Government.
