Bocking in Canberra

No – not the beer – the Jumping Stilts.

They are stilts with a spring on them and they are an upcoming craze, so my twelve year old nephew tells me. He is here on a visit from the Blue Mountains and says that there are a few bockers in Canberra. But where to find them to organise a bocking meet?

Anyone got any clues where Canberra kids bock?

Thanks

Just tell us you’re not going to go suing anyone if your twelve year old accidentally hurts himself on these things.

Don’t you mean bonking? Or are you talking about Stuart Bocking (2UE/2CC announcer)?

Yes Troy – those things. The ones in that video are the adult ones. The kids ones are about 20 cm off the ground – can bounce around pretty good. My nephew always wears a helmet and gloves and sometimes elbow and knee pads.

I ask my nephew and he says ‘having fun, getting healthy and not asking what the hell is the point of these things’.

A website says “For some, Powerbocking is an extreme sport, while for others it’s a form of exercise and even a means of artistic expression.”

He looks very 6 million dollar man like. Then again, his take on John Howard on his morning walk (but on jumping stilts) is pretty funny. Almost as good as his John Howard Yu-gi-oh card.

So long as nobody is sued, I don’t see the harm. As a kid I came close to death by more bizarre means.

Not sure of anyone meeting in Canberra yet but I know there is someone who can help in the blue mountains though, closer to you guys. There is some info at these sites
http://www.weirderthebetter.com.au and or http://convictoffspringbock.the-talk.net/links-f4/links-t6.htm#12 And there is also a UK site that has a better folloeing. You can actually check for Canberra on the Members Map http://www.poweriserpages.com
    Hope this helps.
