The first day of the 2019 McDonald’s Kanga Cup has been and gone, and what a day it was!
John Dunmore Lang Place provided a perfect location and picturesque backdrop for the 2019 Opening Ceremony presented by MILO as the tournament got underway.
More than 140 teams turned out to march from the edge of Lake Burley Griffin up past Reconciliation Place and onto John Dunmore Lang Place for the official opening of the 2019 tournament.
Following a warm welcome from Capital Football CEO Phil Brown and one very large group photo, the Tournament got underway!
The Koori Kangaroos made their McDonald’s Kanga Cup debut in the U12 Male Shield against New Zealand side Meadowbank United on the West Lawns, while over in the East it was Canberra City taking on Liverpool Olympic in the U11 Male Shield and local side Brindabella Blues faced Easts FC in a friendly U/9 outing.
All matches were played in excellent spirits, with Meadowbank, Canberra City and Easts FC coming out on top in their respective clashes.
A full day of action is ahead on Monday as the Tournament proper gets underway at eight venues and over fifty fields across Canberra.
