ACT Policing apprehended three drink-drivers following mobile Random Breath Testing on Canberra’s streets on Sunday night (May 26).
At 6.35pm police conducted a traffic stop on a 55-year-old male P-Plate driver from Narrabundah, who returned an Alcohol Content (AC) reading of 0.082 on Kootara Crescent, Narrabundah. The driver had five previous drink-driving offences.
Around 8.25pm police conducted a traffic stop on a 55-year-old Holder man who returned an AC reading of 0.132 on Mulley Crescent, Holder.
Around 9.20pm police conducted a traffic stop on a 39-year-old Calwell man who returned an AC reading of 0.249 on Hindmarsh Drive, Waramanga.
All three drink-drivers had their licences immediately suspended and will be summonsed to face court at a later date.
Traffic Operations Superintendent Kylie Flower said it is alarming that some drivers are not getting the message and are continuing to ignore the law.
“It’s quite frightening to think there are people within our community who are willing to gamble with the lives of other road users when they get behind the wheel,” Superintendent Flower said.
“If you drink and drive on our roads you will be caught and you will be prosecuted.”
As part of its multi-agency road safety strategy, ACT Policing will be actively targeting drink and drug-affected drivers during June 2013.
