My friends in the states tell me they deal with these rules using the Sony RX cameras. They meet the letter of the law while taking the best photos you can get in that form factor.

(I have no financial interest in Sony, cameras or camera stores.)

Focal length isn’t the issue, for a time Canon dSLRs came with a 150-300mm kit lens, and Canon still sells that diminutive, very crappy black lens for about $300. If it’s a white L series or the like, then you may face issues.

INAL but wouldn’t that be narrowcasting? Oh, and by the way, you can’t put any photos you take at the SCG on your blog or even mention that you went there (gotta love the lawyers).

Peruse the conditions of entry and make an educated guess. My guess is the only problem you would have is convincing them that your 300 mm lens is for “personal use” or that it doesn’t have the potential to cause injury or public nuisance 😉

By contrast the SCG conditions of entry are much more specific (it would appear that if you tweeted that you were at the SCG and the Poms were doing well, that’d be a violation of the conditions of entry).
